New Stage6 cylinder kits: MKII

Here is some nice news! Stage6 has announced their new cylinder kits. According to their Facebook page:

Stage6 have completely revised the 70cc Stage6 Racing and Stage6 SportPro cylinders. Already this summer, we will release the new series S6R Mark II and S6S Mark II for Minarelli and Piaggio, and the version for Peugeot horizontal LC will follow at the end of the year. Once more we have been able to improve cylinder performance quite a bit, as you can see in the diagrams. And there is more good news for you: thanks to the optimising of production costs, we can even offer the cylinders at a better price.

The pictures show the pre-series

Here are some pictures:

First thing that comes to mind is that they changed the combustion head. It is self centering (it fall into the cylinder) and it looks like it is dome shaped. This is a good development! The current Stage6 racing cylinder have a flat shaped piston and head. Various test have shown that changing to a dome shaped piston + combustion head works better.

If you want more out of your current Stage6 racing kit, you might want to consider changing to a dome shaped piston + head (for example, take the head of the Stage6 sport series). I have seen power increases up to 1 hp. Doing this mod will always benefit your engine.

The exhaust port doesn't seem to be changed that much by eye. Still the same shape. Although this shape does give room for porting. Me personally, I am more interested in how the transfer ports look. Changing flow directions can be a PITA.

These cylinder on the photo's are pre-production models. So we will have to wait and see until the finalized products will appear on the market.

Stay tuned,

Bram

  1. Bram,

Your blog is great! Thanks for going through the trouble of doing this. Why did they make the other cylinders with a flat piston and combustion chamber?

  2. Thanks Josh!

I think because of costs. The first series where exact copies of the Athena cylinder. I think they didn't bother to much.

The dome shaped head is definitely an improvement over the flat head. Even changing to a dome piston + head on MKI Stage6 Racing can easily give you 0.8 - 1 hp more.
